Interview/Herring
Was recently interviewed by a Jewish mag out of Minnesota – http://tcjewfolk.com/poet-with-chutzpah-jake-marmer/. For some reason they dubbed Jewish slam poets as “poet with chutzpah”. Kinda don’t like chutzpah. As vocalized in the interview…
On a separate note, MJL published my piece on herring. ha! The funniest thing about it: a man named Herb emailed me – he googled “shmaltz herring”, found the article, and saw that I mentioned my great-grandmother being from the shtetl called Haschevato. His family is too, from there, going way back. He’s looking for relatives – the Nudelman family. If you happen to be a Nudelman hit me up, I’ll introduce you to Herb.
Passover Special, Talat Gig, and Bernstein
Hey friends,
Lots happening around here! Check out my Passover Jazz Poetry special for the Forward – http://www.forward.com/articles/126922/.
Also, I will make a guest appearance with the Talat band this Sunday at City Winery! They’re an awesome jazz-klez band, I’m psyched to be sharing the stage with them. It’s a morning gig – all info http://www.citywinery.com/events/61034.
Oh and my Bernstein review is up on the Forward…
May Chrain be With You!

There should be another piece of my mine there in a few weeks – on herring.
Outdated? Plus BJY
Are blog posts long outdated by the way? By the time I got this website together it’s time to haul in dinasaurs. But then what about the nostalgia factor? Speaking of nostalgia: this is the recent review of the latest issue of the Blue Jew Yorker, at the Forward: http://www.forward.com/articles/123813/
Poetry of Jasmine Donahaye
In this Friday’s edition of Forward, I have a review of Jasmine Donahaye’s poetry book “Self-Portrait as Ruth”. Click here to read. I don’t write much about political poetry but this really struck a chord. The web-version of the article features a recording of the poet, reading her work.
