Two Events Coming Up!

March 18, 2010 Leave a comment

Mark your calendars –

On Monday April 12th, I will be reading in the arty basement of the Sixth Street Synagogue, with Vanessa “Hebrew Mamita” Hidary and Matthue Roth. The night of Jewish slam poetry!

On Monday April 26th, in the same arty basement, distguished and much loved titans of poetry, Samuel Menashe and Stanley Moss will give a reading. I’ll lead a panel afterwards – on their personal Jewish poetics.

Abraham Inc

Absolutely blown away by Abraham Inc, which is a project of David Krakauer (great klez clarinet), Fred Wesley on trombone (of James Brown & Parlament Funkadelic fame) and So Called.

There’s something heimish about funk. Something very home-grown, family-style. Maybe for that reason Krakauer’s klez chops work so well in the context. Or maybe he’s just the best and totally versatile.

Saw them live here in NY last week. The CD has just come out. This is a vid of their gig at the Apollo:
